Dr. Heather Sheardown, professor, Department of Chemical Engineering. Dr. Sheardown holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair Ophthalmic Biomaterials and Drug Delivery Systems. She is an expert in drug delivery, contact lens materials, IOLs, polymer chemistry and bioengineering in the ophthalmic space. 

Erin O’Hara, Master’s candidate, Department of Health Sciences. She is a Master’s candidate in Heather Sheardown’s chemical engineering lab and hopes to improve current medical treatments through the incorporation of biomaterials.

Learning Objectives:

  • Become familiar with C20/20
  • Understand the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between the department of Health Sciences and Engineering
  • Become familiar with the contribution of biomaterials to ocular health
  • Understand how biomaterials can be used in novel ways to treat patients.
